Food supplements are foods in concentrated or dosed form intended to supplement the diet of healthy people. They supply the body with vitamins, minerals and other substances with nutritional or physiological effects.
Food for special groups covers the nutritional needs for people in special life situations. They include foods for infants and young children, daily rations for weight-control diets or foods for special medical purposes.
Vitamins, minerals and other substances are often added to enhance the nutritional value of a food. Legal restrictions and additional labelling requirements exist for these voluntary additives - referred to as fortification.
