Overarching safety requirements apply across all nonfood product groups. Manufacturers and retailers must observe them with due diligence and implement related processes within the company.
A range of specifications apply to the harmonised product area. While some of the specifications apply to all product categories, others apply specifically to individual product groups. The specifications usually concern safety-relevant aspects. While even product-specific legal texts tend to formulate them in general terms, they are specified in harmonised technical standards. Conformity, i.e. compliance with these regulations, is confirmed with the CE marking after a conformity assessment procedure has been carried out. This is accompanied by a not inconsiderable documentation effort as well as various obligations along the entire supply chain up to the retailer.
